Is it expensive? No, with our club there is no membership fee or initial outlay, just pay as you train, with no hidden extras. The only initial outlay is for a license which includes insurance. You’ll never know until you try and your first lesson is free. Am I too old? Our oldest members are in their 60’s and we have people of all physical types and abilities. You’ll be introduced gently and safely into our classes so that you have the best experience possible. Martial Arts is one of the few hobbies that you can do no matter what age or ability you are. It keeps your joints flexible, your muscles firm and your mind sharp. And its fun too !!! Is karate all about fighting? No, absolutely not. Karate concentrates mainly on kata. this is a sequence of moves against an imaginery opponent. 80% is all about kata and 20% is doing blocking techniques. Karate is not a full contact sport unless you wish to pursue that side of the art. We do not push people into anything they do not want to do. Do i need any equipment? Not to begin with. Just turn up in loose clothing like a track suit. If you enjoy Karate and continue to train then it is possible that you could take your 1st belt at 12 weeks. It is at this stage you would require a Karate suit (GI) but normally people prefer to buy a suit at around 6 weeks. How can i find out more? Come and visit us at a training session and see for yourself. Have a chat with our black belts or other parents. Can i Join? Yes, is the simple answer. You must be at least 5 years old though. How long does it take to become a black belt? Three years, assuming you grade every 3 months. It may sound like a long time but we do not give belts away, we expect you to earn them.
